Don’t be upsetti eat low carb spaghetti! Palmini is a pasta substitute made from Hearts of Palm. When properly rinsed and paired with your favorite sauce the taste and texture are remarkably like regular noodles. Now, nothing is ever going to be EXACTLY like pasta, except of course pasta but Palmini is a darn good substitute and we’re not the only ones who think so. Palmini was featured on Shark Tank a few months ago and the Sharks LOVED their pasta! So much so they were offered a deal.
If you’re wondering about the sustainability of Palmini (being that it’s made from Hearts of Palm) you should know that Palmini is made from cultivated palm trees that they grow themselves in a controlled environment. They also don’t cut the whole tree down the same tree is used over and over again.
Un-rinsed Palmini tastes just like palm hearts in brine that’s not surprising because that’s what it is. The can says if you want to neutralize the taste to soak it in milk (we haven’t tried it but some people are using almond or coconut milk to soak). We just rinsed ours really well with regular water and paired it with a coconut chicken curry sauce and didn’t find that it had a taste at all.
