I was always small as a child and through my teenage years, but in 2005, I started steadily gaining weight. Work, medication for depression, a miscarriage, fertility medication, and three pregnancies just left me depressed about how I looked. I was angry and embarrassed, so I ate my feelings to cope.
I reached my highest weight in 2015. My body was in so much pain from all the weight. I couldn’t walk long distances without stopping because of the sciatic nerve in my left leg. I had heard about Keto through a friend, so I started reading everything I could find about it. I started in June of 2016, lost 40lbs, and got pregnant with our third child. After he was born in October 2017, I was more than ready to get back on my weightloss journey.
When I first started Keto, I did my research! I didn’t have the awesome amazing community that I do now. Even though I had a ton of support from my amazing husband, it was really lonely. I adjusted free meal plans to my tastes and used a tracking app to meet my macro and calorie goals. When I started again in 2018, I knew what worked for me, so I had the confidence to go for it and crush my goals.
Doing research and gaining confidence are my biggest pieces of advice for people starting out on their own Keto journeys. It’s helpful to have advice from others, but you will have much more confidence knowing the information for yourself. Everyone’s experience is different, so having knowledge about how the body works with the Ketogenic diet will help you troubleshoot any issues along the way. Losing weight with any diet is hard, but we can do hard things. Just keep going!
As for confidence, believe in your ability to stick with your Keto diet, set your goals, and don’t make excuses. I could easily talk myself into multiple off-plan meals or treats a month, but I wanted to feel better way more than I wanted to satisfy a craving. Keto can be as easy or as difficult as you make it. Keep things simple.
Even though I’ve been Keto for a couple of years, I still have challenges. We homeschool our 3 rambunctious Snack Monsters and do most of our work around the kitchen table, so the temptation to snack is always there. We’ve learned to listen to our bodies and fuel them with food that will help us feel our best. Breakfast is usually coffee with almond milk and a scrambled egg or two, lunch is a salad with protein, and dinner is protein focused.
We love KetoKrate too because it lets us try so many different products! It’s so nice to just try one of a certain item instead of having to buy an entire box of something with the potential to not like it. We stockpile our Krates for movies and road trips!
I am in maintenance now, so my biggest motivation is to not undo all my hard work! Eating a Ketogenic diet genuinely helps me feel my best so that I can be a better wife and mother. I spent such a long time in pain and having a terrible self-image that I never want to go back to that place.
My goals are maintaining my weight loss and helping others reach their goals! I’ve made some fantastic friendships along the way and learned so much from their experiences, and I want to give back to the Keto community.
