I was overweight for most of my life. I tried it all — the fad diets, Weight Watchers, and even trying to starve myself, which I knew was not good! I lost a little weight here and there, but would always gain it back. In 2009, I tried a zero carb diet and lost about 30 pounds. But once I started eating carbs again, I gained it all right back.
In April of 2019, I was very unhappy with the way I looked. I now had a son, who at the time was 3, and I hated taking pictures with him because of the way I looked. I also struggled with high blood pressure, so I knew I had to make a change. So I decided to try out the Keto craze and there was no turning back! Keto wasn’t too new to me since I had previously done a similar diet, so I knew I could do it. Once I put my mind to something, nothing stops me or gets in my way. I have always had extreme will power, dedication and motivation. So once I decided to start Keto, I was all in!
I set a goal weight when I started Keto. Honestly, I never believed I would reach it, but I weighed myself once a week and every week I kept seeing the pounds drop. It was amazing and encouraging, and it inspired me to keep pushing because I knew it was working. I also started a fitness journey at the same time, so working out at the gym 4 to 5 days a week was also an important part of my plan along with the Keto diet.
I was super strict with my diet for the first ten months on Keto, which is when I lost all of my weight. Now I have made Keto a lifestyle, so I am less strict with it. I follow a daily net carb intake, which I try to keep between 15-20 net carbs per day. I have no desire for carbs anymore since starting Keto. I no longer need them in my life!
I’m motivated by wanting to become the best version of me! I wanted to become healthy for myself and most importantly for my son, because I want to be around to watch him grow. Pushing myself and my body also motivates me at the gym. I have come so incredibly far and I never ever thought I would be this successful with my weight loss and fitness journey!
Moving forward, I plan to continue my Keto lifestyle. I’m also currently working on my personal training certification. I want to be able to help and inspire others through diet and exercise, like I was able to do myself.
My best advice to someone starting Keto: never give up! You may have bad days and wonder how you’ll get through cutting carbs out of your diet, but I promise you, your body will get used to it and something will change inside of you. Once you start to see results, you will become hooked. “The best project you’ll ever work on is you!
