Success Story: Sam’s Keto Journey

Like many of us, Sam had been overweight for as long as she could remember. 

“I had always been overweight. I thought it was just part of who I was and that I would always be that way.”

After a break down in her relationship and a life-changing move to Texas, she decided to grow as a person, and the first step was taking care of her body.

“I wanted to meet new people but I felt like my weight was holding me back from being my true self. I decided I needed to work on me first”

At her heaviest, Sam weighed 212 lbs. She had tried other diets but felt they were too restricting or hard to understand and follow.

“Keto was easy to start, and I just learned as I went and I really loved that.”

Three years and 77lbs lighter, she says she’s still learning. 

“When I started, Keto wasn’t huge yet; it was underground and no one knew what the word meant. I followed some people on Instagram and used Google to read up on the basics. I still learn new things all the time because this really is a journey.”

We asked Sam if there’s anything she knows now that she wishes she’d known when she started, and she replied:

“I wish I would have known there’s more than one way to Keto. I learned that you have to find what works for you and your lifestyle. Not everyone’s bodies are the same, and we should recognize that. Just because something does or doesn’t work for someone else, doesn’t mean it will be the same for you.”

Now that Sam is at a comfortable goal weight of 135lb, she’s enjoying her life working as a controller for a small company and going to school for her accounting degree. She still eats Keto for every meal. Her motivation for sticking to it even after reaching her goal weight is helping other people.

“Helping others really fuels me. I want others to learn and try Keto — even if it isn’t for weight purposes. Keto has huge life-changing benefits that go beyond weight loss. It can improve your mental health and prevent diseases. I think everyone could benefit from the Keto diet.”

To wrap thing up with Sam, we asked what advice she’d give to someone who is just starting out. She said,

“Just start! You don’t have to know everything. You don’t have to change everything. You just have to start by lowering your carbs and then learn as you go. It’s a lot of information and you will learn it through your journey, so don’t get bogged down in the details. One healthier step is a step in the right direction.”
